We are working on estimating and measuring to find the correct height or length of objects. Students first estimated their own height, then worked with a partner to measure their their own height using centimeters. After measuring, we found the difference between our estimation and actual height.

Our second grade kiddos had the opportunity today to practice their fluency today by reading picture books to the kindergartners in Mrs. Thomson's class. The second graders prepared by picking out their favorite picture book from the classroom and reading it to practice phrasing and fluency- "making it sound interesting to the listener." The second graders were so proud of themselves! They enjoyed being the "big kids" and sharing their love of reading with our youngest friends at Crull. :) We cannot wait to meet with our Super Second grade families!
Mrs. Alley & Ms. G. We wish you had "smell-o-vision" on your computer, because our room smells HEAVENLY! To go along with our story of the week called "Hedgehog Bakes a Cake," the second grade kiddos baked a yellow cake using Hedgehogs own recipe! MMMMMMmmmmm! Part of our Halloween celebration was to tell a spooky story, using the great descriptive words we have been learning about during Writers Workshop. We have some spooooky stories to share! Have a SAFE and FABULOUS Halloween filled with candy, fun, and family! Hugs, Mrs. Alley and Ms. G. Please fill out the following (quick!) survey so that the school can schedule conferences to best serve our parents and families. Thank you!
Below are the options for when to schedule your Parent Teacher Conference. We appreciate your communication! Tues. Nov. 17th 5:00 - 8:00 Wed. Nov. 18th 12:30 - 3:30 Thurs. Nov. 19th 12:30 - 3:30 Thurs. Nov. 19th 5:00 - 8:00 The Super Second Graders went on a fabulous field trip today back in time to the 1850s. The children were able to participate in Pioneer Days at the Port Huron Museum. Students looked through an actual log cabin from 1856, made candles, tin decorations, made veggie soup and corn bread, as well as wrote with feather quills and ink. It was an amazing learning experience! Keep checking back often! As I receive more pictures from our fabulous chaperones, I will add them to the site. Each album holds approximately fifty pictures. Keep in mind that the pictures are all from phones and I am dumping everything that I get on our website, the quality may not be the best and there may be several duplicates. :) Our classroom is checking out a new program called MobyMax. We are going to pilot this program to use for math, in ELA we are still using LexiaCore5. If your student would like to use this program at home, below are the steps to login to MobyMax. Each students has a unique login and passwork, which is their first name for both. If you are having issues logging in at home, please do not hesitate to send me an email or call me at the school! We are using the 30 day trial to see how our kiddos like the program. If you have any feedback that you would like to let me know, please send an email to [email protected]. Thank you!
How Your Students Sign In Use one or all three easy options. Option 1: Select School Have your students go to www.mobymax.com/signin and then select their school. Option 2: School Code Have your students go to www.mobymax.com/signin and enter in the school code: mi1590 Option 3: Unique School URL Have your students go to the unique school URL: www.mobymax.com/mi1590 and then bookmark the page or put this link on your school webpage. Super Second Graders finished up their projects, teaching the rest of the class what the needs of living things are. Each group had a different topic and had to research their area. Once they had researched using a selected text, students had to make a PicCollage showing five pictures and five facts about their topic. Take a peek at their work! (We are going to work more on what a FACT is versus what an OPINION is!) During Science students were becoming experts on the needs of living things. Each group had a different text, and were researching and studying on the important parts of the book. Tomorrow, the children are going to put together a presentation of their groups and teach the rest of the class. Look back tomorrow to see what the different groups come up with! Our Super Second graders partnered up with Mrs. Rogers 4th grade students to work on math fact fluency. The second and fourth graders will meet at the end of the day each Tuesday and Thursday to work together, from now until the end of the year. Right now the students are working on math, and the 2nd graders enjoyed "quizzing" the big kids on their math facts as well. This is a great opportunity to give the 4th graders a leadership role in the building, as well as allow our 2nd graders to have a positive relationship with the "big kids." Ask your student how it went with their partner(s) today! |
Room 107The fabulous second graders of room 107 welcome you! We hope you check back often to see the awesome learning that is taking place. Archives
